It was a very quick and economical visit as I did not spend money on transport or museums. Still, Bern was in my heart and I intend to return there one day!
The bear is the symbol of the city of Bern, appearing on the coat of arms of its flag, because according to legend this was the first animal hunted there by the Duke of Zahringen. Remember the fountain with the bear and its hunter that I showed you in the first article about Bern? Yes, it portrays this same legend!
The shopping streets of downtown Bern have some buildings with arcades, which extend for 6 km, so if it rains, the visitor can still see all the shops, cafes and restaurants without having to open the umbrella.
One of the characteristics of the historic centre, also known as Altsdadt, are the coloured fountains with Renaissance-style statues in the centre of the streets, almost all from the 16th century.
