Olá olá. Uma das melhores viagens que fiz na minha vida foi a viagem que fiz no Verão de 2019, quando tudo isto não existia, nem sequer nos nossos sonhos, ou melhor pesadelos.
Hello hello. One of the best trips I’ve made in my life was the trip I took in the summer of 2019, when all this didn’t exist, not even in our dreams, or better nightmares.
Escolhi Zagreb como ponto de partida para uma viagem pela CROÁCIA, ESLOVÉNIA, ITÁLIA E BÓSNIA. Fiquei no Palace Hotel Zagreb localizado em pleno centro da cidade, na zona baixa, mesmo em frente a um parque muito bonito e a 5 minutos a pé da Praça Jelacic, a principal praça de ZAGREB. Tem um nome bem complicado de pronunciar, mas é o nome de um herói da Croácia.
I chose Zagreb as my starting point for a trip through CROATIA, SLOVENIA, ITALY and BOSNIA. I stayed at the Palace Hotel Zagreb located in the centre of the city, in the downtown area, right in front of a very beautiful park and 5 minutes walk from Jelacic Square, the main square of ZAGREB. It has a very complicated name to pronounce, but it is the name of a hero of Croatia.
Dessa praça podemos subir à zona alta da cidade, o centro histórico, onde se encontram os bairros de Gradec e Kaptol. A Catedral de Santo Estevão ou Catedral da Assunção da Abençoada Virgem Maria, em estilo neo-gótico, é tão alta que é visivel de qualquer ponto da cidade. Foi inaugurada em 1217, mas da sua história faz parte um terramoto em 1880, pelo que entretanto já foi reconstruída e o seu aspeto é bem diferente ao inicial. Fica na praça Kaptol onde se encontra também uma linda escultura da virgem Maria e o Palácio do Arcebispo.
From this square we can go up to the upper part of the city, the historic centre, where the districts of Gradec and Kaptol are located. St Stephen’s Cathedral or the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in a neo-Gothic style, is so high that it is visible from anywhere in the city. It was inaugurated in 1217, but its history includes an earthquake in 1880, so it has since been rebuilt and looks quite different from the original one. It is located in Kaptol Square where there is also a beautiful sculpture of the Virgin Mary and the Archbishop’s Palace.
Ali ao lado fica o Mercado Dolac, cheio de frutas, verduras e também algumas recordações. Não deixem de visitar. Logo ali fica a rua Tkalciceva, que é uma das ruas que eu mais gostei na cidade. Aqui temos vários restaurantes e bares. Por isso passem por ali de noite e deliciem-se! Nesta zona também encotram várias lojas de recordações, onde podem comprar a famosa gravata de Zagreb. Sim, é que os Croatas dizem que foram eles que inventaram as gravatas que todos os executivos usam e todas as mulheres conhecem. Parece que os soldados croatas que lutaram por França a serviço do Rei Luís XIV usavam uma espécie de lenço vermelho ao pescoço e isso virou moda.
Next door is the Dolac Market, full of fruit, vegetables and also some souvenirs. Don’t miss it. Tkalciceva Street is right there, which is one of the streets that I liked the most in the city. Here we have several restaurants and bars. So stop by at night and enjoy yourselves! In this area there are also several souvenir shops, where you can buy the famous Zagreb tie. Yes, the Croatians say that they invented the ties that all executives wear and all women know. It seems that the Croatian soldiers who fought for France in the service of King Louis XIV wore a kind of red scarf around their necks and that became fashionable.
Outro dos grandes símbolos da cidade é a porta de pedra, Kamenita Krata, a única que sobra da muralha antiga, e que agora é um local de culto. É que um grande incêndio destruiu grande parte do centro histórico e apenas se preservou uma pintura da virgem Maria, que aqui permanece. Mas, a IGREJA DE SÃO MARCOS é que é o grande cartão de visita da cidade! Esta destaca-se pelo seu telhado em mosaico colorido. Foi construida em 1256 e tal como a catedral também sofreu várias obras de restauro. Aqui na praça de São Marcos fica também o palácio do Vice-rei e o Parlamento.
Another of the great symbols of the city is the stone door, Kamenita Krata, the only one left of the ancient wall, which is now a place of worship. A great fire destroyed much of the historic centre and only one painting of the Virgin Mary was preserved, which remains here. But the CHURCH OF SÃO MARCOS is the great calling card of the city! It stands out for its colourful mosaic roof. It was built in 1256 and like the cathedral it also underwent several restoration works. Here in St. Mark’s Square is also the Viceroy’s palace and the Parliament.
Do STROSSMARTRE, uma espécie de mercado ao ar livre na zona alta, vê-se grande parte da cidade baixa. É um excelente local para relaxar, conviver e tirar umas fotografias. Adorei as cores das pequenas barracas, que se encontravam fechadas devido à hora a que passei por ali. Aconselho a visita noturna. Este mercado apenas decorre durante o verão. Aqui situa-se a TORRE LOTRSCAK, onde se encontra um canhão que dispara todos os dias ao meio dia em ponto. Esta torre era a encarregue de proteger o portão sul das muralhas da cidade. Daqui podemos descer para a cidade nova pelo funicular, que com apenas 66 metros de percurso é considerado um dos menores do mundo. Já é considerado um monumento por aqui.
From STROSSMARTRE, a kind of open-air market in the upper zone, you can see a large part of the lower city. It is a great place to relax, socialize and take some photos. I loved the colours of the small tents, which were closed due to the time I spent there. I recommend a night visit. This market only takes place during the summer. Here is the TORRE LOTRSCAK, where you can find a cannon that shoots every day at noon sharp. This tower was in charge of protecting the south gate from the city walls. From here we can go down to the new city by the funicular, which with only 66 meters of path is considered one of the smallest in the world. It is already considered a monument here.
E a minha última paragem em Zagreb foi num cemitério, imaginem só! É que este é uma das principais atrações da cidade. É tão lindo e grande! Eu fui até ali de carro mas também podia ter ido de transporte público, apesar de ele ficar um pouco longe do centro da cidade.
And my last stop in Zagreb was in a cemetery, imagine that! This is one of the main attractions of the city. It’s so beautiful and big! I went there by car but I could also have gone by public transport, although it is a bit far from the city centre.
