Saí de Plasencia e fui direta a Toledo, onde dormi, no hotel Santa Isabel. Apesar de ser apenas de 2 estrelas, achei o hotel excelente! Fica dentro das muralhas, mesmo no centro histórico, tem uns quartos bem espaçosos e serve um ótimo pequeno-almoço.
I left Plasencia and went straight to Toledo, where I slept, at the Santa Isabel Hotel. Although it was only 2 stars, I found the hotel excellent! It is within the walls, even in the historic centre, has very spacious rooms and serves a great breakfast.
Toledo, capital de Castilla la Mancha, apesar de ser bastante maior que Plasencia, também se percorre bem a pé. Aliás, dentro das muralhas, rodeadas pelo rio Tejo, são poucos os carros que circulam. Portanto, levem os sapatos mais confortáveis que tiverem! De preferência sapatilhas. Eu levei as sandálias da fotografia de cima e os meus pés sofreram! ;( No dia seguinte tive de mudar para sapatilhas.
Toledo, the capital of Castilla la Mancha, although much larger than Plasencia, is also a good place to walk. As a matter of fact, within the walls, surrounded by the Tejo River, few cars circulate. Therefore, take the most comfortable shoes you have! Preferably sneackers. I took the sandals from the photo above and my feet suffered! The next day I had to change into that sneackers.
Acho que fiz super bem em ficar a dormir em pleno centro histórico, pois isso deu-me uma maior facilidade para passear pela cidade. As principais atrações turísticas ficavam ali bem perto do hotel, como é o caso do Álcazar, atual museu do exército.
I think I did super well to stay asleep in the historic centre, as it made it easier for me to walk around the city. The main tourist attractions were right there near the hotel, such as the Alcazar, now an army museum.
Para visitar Toledo vai precisar de 2 a 3 dias. Eu como ia apanhar o voo a Madrid, apenas fiquei uma noite e cerca de uma dia. Por isso, ficou imensa coisa por ver. Mas, não há problema! Assim já tenho um bom motivo para voltar. 😉
To visit Toledo you will need 2 to 3 days. As I was going to take the flight to Madrid, I only stayed one night and about one day. So there was a lot to see. But, no problem! So I have a good reason to come back. 😉
O rio é a imagem de marca da cidade. Aqui existem também duas pontes medievais, a Ponte de Alcántara e a de San Martin.

Em Toledo existem vários exemplos do domínio muçulmano. Um exemplo é a Sinagoga de Santa Maria de la Blanca. Reparem na sua arquitectura! Também existe a Mezquita del Cristo de la Luz. Existe ainda outra Sinagoga, a Sinagoga del Transito.

Mas, para mim, a grande surpresa em Toledo foi o Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes, que não podem deixar de visitar. Este foi mandado construir pelos reis católicos para ser um panteão. A entrada faz-se pelo Claustro Inferior, que está ornamentado com esculturas de santos da Ordem Franciscana e mártires da igreja
But, for me, the big surprise in Toledo was the Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes, which you cannot miss visiting. It was built by the Catholic kings to be a pantheon. The entrance is through the Lower Cloister, which is decorated with sculptures of saints of the Franciscan Order and martyrs of the church.

O Real Colégio de las Doncellas Nobles, também incluído na pulseira turística, é um dos monumentos menos conhecidos de Toledo, pois apenas abriu as portas ao público em 2015. Isto porque funcionou até finais do século XX.
The Royal College of the Doncellas Nobles, also included in the tourist bracelet, is one of the least known monuments in Toledo, as it only opened its doors to the public in 2015. This is because it worked until the end of the 20th century.
Ao centro da igreja encontra-se o sepulcro de um cardeal. Pode-se ainda visitar a sala dos reitores, uma sala ornamentada ao estilo do século XIX, onde se encontra o retrato do cardeal fundador.

Ao anoitecer é uma boa hora para visitarem a movimentada Plaza de Zocodover, a maior da cidade, onde podem encontrar vários bares, restaurantes e pastelarias tradicionais. Aproveitem para provar o bolo típico, o Mazapan.
