Plasencia

Plasencia é uma cidade ainda pouco conhecida para o turismo, na província de Cáceres na Extremadura. Eu também a conheci por acaso! Ia apanhar o voo a Madrid, e tinha decidido ficar a dormir em Toledo. Mas, ao pesquisar na internet onde parar antes de chegar a Toledo, encontrei fotografias de Plasencia. Fiquei encantada!

Plasencia is still a little known city for tourism in Cáceres, Extremadura. I also met it by chance! I was going to take the flight to Madrid, and had decided to stay asleep in Toledo. But, while searching the Internet to find out where to stop before arriving in Toledo, I found photos of Plasencia. I was delighted!

A primeira paragem foi um pouco fora da cidade, no Santuário de Nuestra Señora del Puerto, a padroeira da cidade, que é lindo e tem umas vistas incríveis sobre a cidade e paisagem circundante.

The first stop was a little outside the city, at the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora del Puerto, the patron saint of the city, which is beautiful and has incredible views over the city and surrounding landscape.

Entramos nesta cidade pelas suas muralhas, que são de finais do século XII e inícios do séc. XIII, depois de deixarmos o carro nas redondezas. Existem 7 portas principais, a de Santo Antão, a do Sol, a de Salvador, a de Trujillo, a de Berrozanas, a de Cória e a de Talavera. Todas vão dar ao casco antigo da cidade.

We entered this city by its walls, which are from the late 12th century and early 13th century, after leaving the car in the vicinity. There are 7 main doors, that of Santo Antão, that of Sol, that of Salvador, that of Trujillo, that of Berrozanas, that of Cória and that of Talavera. All of them lead to the old hull of the city.

Chegamos então à Plaza Mayor, onde fica a câmara municipal. O Ayuntamento é num edifício do século XVI de estilo gótico – renascentista, onde se destaca uma torre com um relógio e um sino. Aqui existe uma figura colorida do Abuelo Mayorga, muito conhecida na cidade. Também se pode ver um escudo do Imperador Carlos I na esquina.

We then arrived at Plaza Mayor, where the town hall is. The Ayuntamento is in a 16th century Gothic – Renaissance style building, where a tower with a clock and a bell stands out. Here there is a colourful figure of Abuelo Mayorga, well known in the city. You can also see a shield of Emperor Charles I on the corner.

O centro histórico é bem pequenino e por isso faz-se bem a pé. Então ali ao lado da Plaza Mayor fica a Catedral de Plasencia, que devido à falta de tempo não tive a oportunidade de visitar por dentro. Mas, achei-a linda por fora! E já vi umas fotos incríveis da catredal, tanto da nova como da velha, por dentro. Tive pena de não a poder visitar!

The historical centre is very small and so it is well done on foot. Then next to the Plaza Mayor is the Cathedral of Plasencia, which due to lack of time I did not have the opportunity to visit inside. But, I found it beautiful on the outside! And I’ve seen some incredible pictures of the cathedral, both new and old, inside. I was sorry I couldn’t visit it!

Já de saída, parei para tirar umas fotografias no exterior da Iglesia de San Martin, que é uma das muitas igrejas da cidade.

Vocês se tiverem mais tempo, podem visitar também a Casa de las dos Torres, que é o palácio mais antigo da cidade, a Catedral e a Igreja de San Nicolás. A cidade é linda. Vale a pena passear por aqui pelo menos durante um dia. 😉

On my way out, I stopped to take some photos outside the Iglesia de San Martin, which is one of the many churches in the city.

If you have more time, you can also visit the Casa de las dos Torres, which is the oldest palace in the city, the Cathedral and the Church of San Nicolás. The city is beautiful. It is worth walking around here for at least a day. 😉
