O TOP 1 de qualquer roteiro de viagem de Belfast é o Museu do Titanic, sem dúvida. Eu tinha muita curiosidade mas nunca havia pensado que era tão bom e tão inesquecível. Aconselho a visita a qualquer pessoa, principalmente aos amantes de barcos como eu. 😉
The TOP 1 of any Belfast travel itinerary is the Titanic Museum, no doubt. I was very curious but never thought it would be so good and so unforgettable. I advise visiting anyone, especially boat lovers like me. 😉
Existem vários tipos de bilhetes para o museu. Eu escolhi o mais completo, o premium, que me permitiu a visita ao barco SS Nomadic (um “Titanic” mais pequenino) e a visita guiada ao museu e às áreas circundantes, nomeadamente ao local onde foi construído o Titanic e ao hotel com o mesmo nome, Titanic Hotel. Custou-me 30 libras mas valeu tudo isso e mais! O guia era super simpático e explicava com muita clareza e alegria toda a história deste local e a relação do Titanic com esta cidade.
There are several types of tickets to the museum. I chose the most complete, the premium, which allowed me to visit the SS Nomadic boat (a smaller “Titanic”) and the guided tour of the museum and surrounding areas, namely the place where the Titanic was built and the hotel with the same name, Titanic Hotel. It cost me 30 pounds but it was worth all that and more! The guide was super nice and explained with great clarity and joy the whole history of this place and the Titanic’s relationship with this city.
Ao entrarmos no edifício parece que estamos a entrar num shopping, devido à sua dimensão, à existência de um café, um restaurante e uma loja, assim como às diversas escadas rolantes para os pisos superiores. Trata-se de um museu interactivo, tal como o da Guinness. Ainda se lembram?
As we enter the building it seems that we are entering a shopping center, due to its size, the existence of a café, a restaurant and a shop, as well as the various escalators to the upper floors. It’s an interactive museum, just like Guinness. Do you still remember?
O museu está alinhado em frente aos estaleiros onde foram construídos o Titanic e o seu “irmão” Olympic e toda a sua arquitectura foi inspirada na de um navio. A sua altura é igual à do Titanic, a sua fachada representa o casco do navio e os seus vértices as proas de uma embarcação. O hall amplo faz lembrar o de um grande navio cruzeiro.
The museum is lined up in front of the shipyards where the Titanic and its “brother” Olympic were built and all their architecture was inspired by that of a ship. Its height is the same as that of the Titanic, its facade represents the hull of the ship and its vertexes the bow of a ship. The large hall is reminiscent of that of a large cruise ship.
À volta do edifício está desenhado um mapa mundo no pavimento sinalizando algumas das cidades onde atracou o Titanic, como é o caso de Belfast, onde foi construído; Southampton, porto principal de embarcação, e Nova Iorque, porto de destino. Existem também uns bancos que formam um anel à volta do edifício, que recriam o código Morse do pedido de ajuda do Titanic aquando do naufrágio. Muito interessante!
Around the building is a world map on the pavement signaling some of the cities where the Titanic docked, such as Belfast, where it was built; Southampton, the main shipping port, and New York, the destination port. There are also some banks that form a ring around the building, which recreate the Morse code of the Titanic’s request for help when it sank. Very interesting!
Existem uns postes e umas linhas na parte de trás do edifício, no local exacto das rampas de lançamento do Olympic e do Titanic, que definem todo o contorno real destes navios. Assim, é possível ter uma verdadeira noção da largura, do comprimento e da altura dos mesmos.
There are some poles and some lines in the back of the building, in the exact spot of the launching ramps of the Olympic and Titanic, which define all the actual outline of these ships. So you can get a real sense of their width, length and height.
