Depois de visitar a Suíça, fui em direcção à região da Alsácia em França, mais concretamente a Colmar, a cidade Natal. Há muito que queria visitar esta zona, principalmente em época natalícia! Não consegui viajar nessa altura, mas ainda assim valeu a pena a pequena escapadinha desde a Suíça. É que realmente fica muito próximo da cidade de Basel, onde iria apanhar o avião de volta para o Porto, e tem comboio directo desde aí.

After visiting Switzerland, I head out for the Alsace region in France, more specifically Colmar, the magic of Christmas. I’ve wanted to visit this area for a long time, especially during the Christmas season! I couldn’t travel at that time, but it was still worth the short getaway from Switzerland. It is really very close to the city of Basel, where I would catch the plane back to Porto, and there is a direct train from there.

Portanto, apanhei um comboio de Berna para Basel, cidade que na realidade se divide em 3, pertencendo a maior parte à Suíça, outra mais pequena à França e a última à Alemanha. Daí apanhei outro comboio, já do lado Francês, para Colmar. Pode parecer um pouco confuso, mas na parte Suíça da estação ferroviária de Basel tem indicações de como se deslocar a pé até ao lado francês da mesma.

So I took a train from Bern to Basel, a city that actually divides into 3, most of it belonging to Switzerland, another smaller one to France and the last one to Germany. Then I took another train, already on the French side, to Colmar. It may seem a bit confusing, but on the Swiss side of the Basel railway station there are indications of how to get to the French side on foot.

Fiquei alojada no hotel Turenne por 2 noites, que me saíram mais baratas que qualquer uma das noites na Suíça, e se revelou muito melhor que estes. Achei-o bastante confortável e agradável, para além de muito central.

I stayed at the Hotel Turenne for 2 nights, which were cheaper than any of the nights in Switzerland, and proved much better than these. I found it quite comfortable and pleasant, besides being very central.

Na manhã seguinte à minha chegada, o primeiro local que quis visitar foi a Le Petite Venice, os pequenos canais da cidade, e o Quai de la Poissonnerie, cartões postais desta cidade, também conhecida como Pequena Veneza.

The morning after my arrival, the first place I wanted to visit was Le Petite Venice, the small canals of the city, and the Quai de la Poissonnerie, postcards from this city, also known as Little Venice.

O bairro dos pescadores, o local onde os pescadores e as suas famílias moravam e onde comercializavam o seu pescado, sofreu um incêndio em 1706, que levou à destruição de mais de 40 casas, que foram muito mais tarde restauradas, entre 1978 e 1981.

The fishermen’s quarter, the place where fishermen and their families lived and where they sold their fish, suffered a fire in 1706, which led to the destruction of more than 40 houses, which were much later restored, between 1978 and 1981.

Actualmente, existem aqui restaurantes charmosos e lojinhas de recordações e decorações natalícias. Um encanto!

Today, there are charming restaurants and little shops with souvenirs and Christmas decorations. A charm!

Um pouco por toda a cidade as casinhas coloridas com estrutura de madeira no estilo Colombage, tipo enxaimel, dão vida ao cenário, que faz lembrar o do filme a Bela e o Monstro. Aliás, foi esta cidade que inspirou a Disney! Bela vivia num pitoresco vilarejo francês numa casinha assim. Quem se lembra?

All over the city, the colorful houses with a wooden structure in the Colombage style, like a migraine, give life to the scenery, which reminds us of the movie Beauty and the Beast. In fact, it was this city that inspired Disney! Bela lived in a picturesque French village in a little house like this. Who remembers?

Em frente ao Quai de la Poissonnerie existe o mercado local, Le Marché Couvert, que vende produtos frescos da região todos os dias, das 8h às 18h, aos sábados até às 17h e aos domingos de manhã até às 14h.

In front of the Quai de la Poissonnerie is the local market, Le Marché Couvert, which sells fresh produce from the region every day, from 8am to 6pm, on Saturdays until 5pm and on Sundays morning until 2pm.
