Bern #3

Continuando sempre pela rua principal, que na verdade se divide em 3 pois tem três nomes distintos, descendo até Gerechitigkeitsbrunnen chegamos até a ponte Nydeggbrucke.

Continuing along the main street, which is actually divided into 3 because it has three different names, going down to Gerechitigkeitsbrunnen we reached the Nydeggbrucke Bridge.

Do outro lado da cidade fica o Barengraben, o parque dos Ursos.

On the other side of town is Barengraben, the Bear Park.

Na realidade, o Urso é o símbolo da cidade de Berna, aparecendo no brasão da sua bandeira, pois segundo a lenda este foi o primeiro animal ali caçado pelo duque de Zahringen . Lembram-se da fonte com o urso e o seu caçador que vos mostrei no primeiro artigo sobre Berna? Pois é, ela retrata esta mesma lenda!

In fact, the bear is the symbol of the city of Bern, appearing on the coat of arms of its flag, because according to legend this was the first animal hunted there by the Duke of Zahringen. Remember the fountain with the bear and its hunter that I showed you in the first article about Bern? Yes, it portrays this same legend!

Mas, é claro que eu novamente tive azar e muito azar. Na verdade, na altura fiquei furiosa! É que eu tinha lido que no final de Janeiro, altura em que visitei a Suíça já poderia ver pelo menos 2 ursos neste parque. Mas, estava enganada! Obviamente que com tanto frio os ursos não estariam por ali ao ar livre! Os ursos hibernam e por isso estavam fechados no jardim zoológico da cidade. Só na Primavera eles aparecem por ali. 😉

But, of course, I’ve had bad luck again and a lot of bad luck. In fact, at the time I was furious! I had read that by the end of January, when I visited Switzerland, I could see at least 2 bears in this park. But, It was wrong! Obviously, when it was so cold the bears wouldn’t be out there! The bears hibernate and so they were locked in the city zoo. It wasn’t until spring that they showed up. 😉

O parque, que chega até às margens do rio Aare, tem aproximadamente 6000 m2 de área e foi inaugurado em final de Outubro de 2009.

The park, which reaches the banks of the Aare River, has an area of approximately 6000 m2 and was inaugurated at the end of October 2009.

Actualmente vive aqui uma família de 3 ursos, mas anteriormente já viveram aqui outros e os seus nomes estão escritos numa parte da calçada deste parque. É que antes da abertura do Barengraben, já existia aqui um fosso, sem quaisquer condições para os animais, com pelo menos um urso desde 1857. A consciência ecológica e do conceito de tratamentos adequados aos animais obrigou a esta mudança!

A family of 3 bears currently live here, but previously others have lived here and their names are written on a part of the sidewalk of this park. Before the opening of Barengraben, there was already a moat here, without any conditions for the animals, with at least one bear since 1857. The ecological awareness and the concept of appropriate treatment for animals forced this change!

Mas, mesmo sem a presença dos ursos, a visita a este recinto valeu bastante a pena pois tem uma vista incrível de todo o centro histórico da cidade e do rio. Aconselho!

But even without the presence of the bears, the visit to this enclosure was very worthwhile because it has an incredible view of the entire historical center of the city and the river. I advise!

Ainda neste parque podem encontrar o banco do Albert Einstein, que achei super engraçado. É um local de fotografia obrigatória! Afinal, ele viveu em Berna e foi aqui que desenvolveu a teoria da Relatividade. 😉

You can still find Albert Einstein’s bench in this park, which I thought was super funny. It’s a must-see photography spot! After all, he lived in Bern and this is where he developed the theory of relativity. 😉
