A torre do relógio ou Zytglogge é o must see de Berna, o ponto turístico mais visitado da cidade, e faz lembrar um pouco a torre do relógio astronómico de Praga. Esta foi construída no século XIII, tendo actualmente mais de 600 anos.

The clock tower or Zytglogge is the must see of Bern, the most visited tourist point of the city, and is a bit reminiscent of the astronomical clock tower of Prague. It was built in the 13th century and is now over 600 years old.

Era inicialmente uma torre de defesa e porta de entrada da cidade até 1256. Entretanto serviu de prisão. Só mais tarde, depois do incêndio de 1405, foi construído o pesado sino de 1,4 toneladas e o relógio mecânico. Este toca todas as horas e 4 minutos antes as pequenas figuras começam a sair do seu interior e a desfilar, o galo canta e o sino toca.

It was initially a defense tower and gateway to the city until 1256. Meanwhile, it served as a prison. Only later, after the 1405 fire, the heavy 1.4 ton bell and mechanical clock were built. It rings every hour and 4 minutes before the small figures start to come out of its interior and parade, the bell sings and the bell rings.

As ruas comerciais do centro de Berna têm uns edifícios com umas arcadas, que se prolongam por 6 km, pelo que se chover, o visitante pode ver na mesma todas as lojinhas, cafés e restaurantes sem ter de abrir o guarda-chuva.

The shopping streets of downtown Bern have some buildings with arcades, which extend for 6 km, so if it rains, the visitor can still see all the shops, cafes and restaurants without having to open the umbrella.

Eu aproveitei para passear um pouco nestas arcadas reparando nos preços exorbitantes de cada artigo. Mesmo as lojas de recordações são super caras. E, tenham em atenção o cambio da moeda! Há coisas que não valem mesmo a pena, e esta foi talvez a viagem onde comprei menos coisas.

I took the opportunity to take a walk on these arches noticing the exorbitant prices of each item. Even souvenir shops are super expensive. And, watch out for the currency change! Some things aren’t really worth it, and this was maybe the trip where I bought less.

Existem algumas lojas e serviços que se localizam nas caves, praticamente escondidas. Nunca tinha visto nada igual! Achei muito interessante!

There are some stores and services that are located in the basements, practically hidden. I’ve never seen anything like it! I found it very interesting!

Para além das fontes, nas fachadas dos edifícios também existem algumas estátuas coloridas.

Besides the fountains, on the facades of the buildings there are also some coloured statues.

Portanto, torna-se muito interessante para o turista a busca dos mais pequenos pormenores de cada rua e a descoberta do seu significado. É como um jogo!

Em pleno centro histórico da cidade, na principal rua, existe ainda a casa onde viveu Albert Einstein, que podem visitar. Eu tive pouca sorte pois estava fechada na altura que fui. São as desvantagens de viajar em época baixa!

In the heart of the historical centre of the city, on the main street, there is still the house where Albert Einstein lived, which you can visit. I was unlucky because it was closed at the time I went. Those are the disadvantages of travelling in low season!

Ao lado da Câmara municipal de Berna encontramos a igreja católica de São Pedro e São Paulo, que tive a oportunidade de visitar.

Beside the City Hall of Bern we find the Catholic Church of St Peter and St Paul, which I had the opportunity to visit.

• 

Apesar de ser católica, é bem simples, como as demais igrejas da Suíça. Ainda assim, achei-a muito bonita!

Although it is Catholic, it is quite simple, like the other churches in Switzerland. Still, I thought it was very beautiful!
