Lucerna, a maior cidade da Suiça Central, fica cerca de 50 km a sul de Zurique. Lucerne, the largest city in Central Switzerland, is about 50 km south of Zurich. The train journey from Zurich HB to Luzern takes about 50 minutes and there are connections at least every 30 minutes. Lucerna é provavelmente a cidade mais romântica de toda a Suiça e uma das mais belas do mundo.

Lucerne is probably the most romantic city in all of Switzerland and one of the most beautiful in the world.

A ponte da Capela é a imagem de marca desta belíssima cidade Suiça. Toda em madeira, com uma longitude de mais de 200 metros, foi Construída em 1333 mas sofreu um grave incêndio que danificou muitas das suas pinturas.

The Chapel Bridge is the trademark of this beautiful Swiss city. All in wood, with a length of more than 200 meters, was built in 1333 but suffered a serious fire that damaged many of its paintings.

No entanto, após este drástico incêndio de 1993 a ponte sofreu um intenso restauro e parte das pinturas danificadas foram substituídas por cópias fotográficas. Mas, nem todas as pinturas são cópias! Por sorte, pela altura do incêndio, algumas estavam a ser restauradas fora da ponte e, assim, ficaram intactas!

However, after this drastic fire in 1993 the bridge had an intense restoration and part of the damaged paintings were replaced by photographic copies. But not all paintings are copies! Luckily, by the time of the fire, some were being restored outside the bridge and thus remained intact!

Ao lado da ponte foi construída uma torre, a Torre da água, inicialmente com funções defensivas, mas que já teve várias utilizações pois também serviu de prisão e mais tarde de arquivo e tesouro da cidade.

Next to the bridge a tower was built, the Water Tower, initially with defensive functions, but which has already had several uses. It also served as a prison and later as the city’s archive and treasure.

Lucerna é, então, uma cidade que vive do seu rio e das suas pontes. As suas águas cristalinas e límpidas, como em toda a Suiça, dão-lhe uma beleza sem igual.

The Reuss River and its bridges are very important to Lucerne. Its crystal clear waters, as in all of Switzerland, give it a unique beauty.

De um dos lados do rio, do lado da cidade velha, fica a câmara municipal, Rathaus, um edifício do século XVII e outro com uns fresco lindíssimos que representam uma árvore de cujos ramos saem os brasões das famílias mais antigas e ricas da cidade na sua fachada, a casa Zu Pfistern.

On one side of the river, on the side of the old town, is the town hall, Rathaus, a 17th century building and another one next to it with a beautiful painting a beautiful painting on its facade representing a tree with the coats of arms of the oldest and richest families of the town on its branches, Zu Pfistern.

Do outro lado, em Neustadt (cidade nova), fica a igreja dos Jesuítas ou igreja de São Francisco Xavier, uma igreja católica construída entre 1666 e 1673 em estilo barroco, apesar da obra das suas torres apenas ter terminado em 1893. No seu interior, as pinturas do tecto representam a apoteose do seu patrono. É um dos edifícios mais bonitos da cidade.

On the other side is the Jesuit church or church of St. Francis Xavier, a Catholic church built between 1666 and 1673 in baroque style, although the work on its towers was only finished in 1893. Inside, the ceiling paintings represent the apotheosis of its patron. It is one of the most beautiful buildings in the city.

A poucos metros da ponte da Capela existe outra ponte de madeira, a Ponte dos Moinhos ou Spreuerbrucke, construída em 1408. As várias pinturas de Kaspar Meglinger, também triangulares, ao longo da ponte retratam as várias fases da morte e a vitória de Cristo sobre a morte.

A few meters from the Chapel bridge there is another wooden bridge, the Mills Bridge or Spreuerbrucke, built in 1408. The various paintings by Kaspar Meglinger, also triangular, along the bridge depict the various stages of death and Christ’s victory over death.
