Galway situa-se na zona oeste da Irlanda, sendo banhada pelo Oceano Atlântico. É uma importante cidade universitária irlandesa, considerada também a capital cultural e gastronómica da Irlanda.

Galway is situated in the western part of Ireland and is bathed by the Atlantic Ocean. It is a major Irish university town, also considered the cultural and gastronomic capital of Ireland.

Quando nós fomos estava a decorrer o Galway International Arts Festival, um dos principais acontecimentos culturais europeus, que se celebra todos os anos no final de Julho, e que já conta 40 anos de existência.

When we went there was the Galway International Arts Festival, one of the main European cultural events, which is celebrated every year at the end of July, and already has 40 years of existence.

Pode chegar facilmente a Galway de comboio ou autocarro desde grandes cidades como Dublin, Cork ou Limmerick. Se tiver carro, pode ainda visitar locais magníficos nas redondezas, como as falésias de Moher, ou fazer um passeio pela costa.

You can easily reach Galway by train or bus from major cities like Dublin, Cork or Limmerick. If you have a car, you can also visit magnificent places nearby, such as the cliffs of Moher, or take a coastal walk.

Prove uma especialidade gastronómica num dos muitos restaurantes conceituados. Mas, vá com a carteira recheada! Os preços, infelizmente, não são muito convidativos.

Try a gastronomic specialty in one of the many renowned restaurants. But go with your wallet full! The prices, unfortunately, are not very inviting.

Um dos mais concorridos é o Ard Bia at Nimmos, junto ao Arco Espanhol, presente no guia Michelin. A minha “pobre carteira” não me permitiu degustar as suas iguarias, mas tem uma avaliação muito positiva, e a localização é excelente. Se quiserem experimentar, recomendo a reserva antecipada de mesa.

One of the most popular is Ard Bia at Nimmos, next to the Spanish Arch, present in the Michelin guide. My “poor wallet” didn’t allow me to taste the delicacies, but it has a very positive evaluation, and the location is excellent. If you’d like to try it, I recommend booking a table in advance.

O arco espanhol, uma extensão das antigas muralhas medievais, construído em 1584 mas destruído parcialmente por um tsunami em 1755, serviu de protecção para os navios espanhóis que aqui chegavam carregados de mercadorias.

The Spanish arch, an extension of the ancient medieval walls, built in 1584 but partially destroyed by a tsunami in 1755, served as protection for Spanish ships arriving here loaded with merchandise.
